Cleaning your BBQ is easy with these tips

Chowing down on delicious BBQ food is one of life’s simple pleasures. Cleaning the BBQ isn’t. It can be an arduous, messy task and the last thing you want to do with a belly full of ribs. To make life easier we have compiled some of the best tricks and tips to make cleaning the BBQ a breeze. It’s won’t be as pleasurable as the eating and cooking part, but cleaning never is, and one must be realistic in one’s expectations to avoid disappointment. BBQ WISDOM 1:13

The Ol’ Onion Trick

This one sounds too crazy to be true, but it works like a charm. Slice an onion in half then fire up the grill. Put half an onion on a barbecue fork and then rub the open cut side of the onion down and rub it up and down your grill. It will loosen off any residual grime. Then it’s just a matter giving it a quick wipe down with some paper towel.

Soaking the Plates

An easy way to make sure your barbecue plates stay squeaky clean is to soak them in a solution after use. A good natural solution you can use that can be made from readily available household ingredients is vinegar and baking soda. All you need to do is add one tablespoon of vinegar and one tablespoon of baking soda to a litre of water and let your BBQ plates soak for an hour.

Clean Directly After Use

This one is a no-brainer. If you clean your Weber BBQ straight after you use it, the dirt and grimes comes off easier. The fat is yet to coagulate, so it’s much easier to wipe off. Also using paper towels to clean the plate while they’re still hot will make your life a lot easier.

Aluminium Foil

Aluminium Foil works great for scrubbing your barbie down after a big cook up and will save ruining all your Brillo pads. Simply take a wad and scrunch it up into a ball. The rough edges will get the grease and grime off without a hitch. Then wipe it off with some paper towel to get the fine grit out.

Prevention Better than Cure

To prevent your barbecue from rusting, apply olive oil onto the grill plates after cleaning. Always ensure they are thoroughly dry though.

Steam Cleaning

If you have a cast iron pan or something that is heat resistant, the fill it with water and put it on the hotplates and close the lid. Crank up the barbecue and the steam will loosen all the built-up mess. This trick can also be done in the microwave.

With summer around the corner, it’s time to get the barbecue out from the shed and clean off the cobwebs. If you follow these simple tricks and tips it will make cleaning the BBQ an effort of ease.
